The Wesleys' Conversion
Look Closer
In the larger pane, Charles and John Wesley stand together. Below this Charles sits at a writing desk

This window was installed in memory of Rev. Arthur Wood and is wife Harriet Siddons Wood. It was erected by their children Mrs Edward Weaver and Kingsley Wood, who served in Winston Churchill’s government. The upper part of the window shows John and Charles Wesley with two friends, singing a hymn in the home of John Bray to celebrate their conversion. This represents the evening of 24th May 1738, when after John Wesley had his conversion experience he went with a band of his friends to visit Charles Wesley, who was staying at John Bray’s house, and who had three days earlier had his own conversion experience, to declare ‘I believe. Across the top of the window is a banner with the words “Where shall my wondering soul begin?” – the opening line of the hymn Charles Wesley wrote on his conversion experience.
