In the study is John Wesley's machine to generate electricity. He pioneered the use of Electro Convulsive Therapy and also founded the first free pharmacy at the Foundery Chapel, where this machine was used.

The handle was turned and a spark generated from the rod with the ball attached. Wesley used to treat depression as well as other disorders. After using it on patients for three years he finally used it on himself and found it 'most beneficial'.
