Chamber Horse

John Wesley was a great advocate for exercise as a cure for illness. He rode his horse most days but in the winter months, when he couldn’t ‘ride out’ he would use his chamber horse for exercise. We know that John Wesley’s chamber horse was kept in his dining room as he says so in a letter he wrote to his sister.

Chamber horses were a fairly common piece of furniture in country houses of the eighteenth century.
