Wesley's black house gown and hat

Wesley's hat, gown, preaching bands and shoes are the familiar dress of an 18th century clergyman and Wesley can be seen wearing similiar clothes in a number of his portrait. The gown here was thought to be one he used on his travels by coach, but more recently an expert described it as a 'house gown'.
